por Mónica Rodriguez Salvo

Helping students - and teachers- develop social-emotional skills goes a long way toward ensuring they'll be on the path to success in college, career, and life. Practising self-management in discussions with peers, making positive decisions, managing emotions when disappointments happen, building healthy relationships, and persisting in the face of setbacks—are all necessary life skills. They also contribute to academic success. The short- and long-term benefits of nurturing SEL have been well-documented. The future of skills is embedded within the development of these skills, so join us in this hands-on webinar to tackle the basic concepts of social and emotional learning (SEL) and get bright new ideas for immediate implementation in your classroom.

Communicative Teaching & Communicative Testing. A Powerful Alignment that Promotes Meaningful Learning

por Paola Danesi

No doubt, the word “test” is enough to send students into panic mode. Frowns and complaints multiply. A bleak scenario invades the classroom. Now, what triggers these anti-test feelings? Sad to admit, but the answer may be the type of assessment we use, especially when testing does not reflect the teaching style and course objectives. Take the case of a communicative course in which students are ONLY evaluated by means of grammar tests that ONLY assess their knowledge about grammar rather than their ability to use language appropriately. No wonder students feel confused and frustrated. They are right to argue that these grammar test scores are not a true reflection of their communicative skills. So simple. So True.

It is our responsibility to use assessment in sync with our teaching that motivates students and promotes growth and meaningful learning. In this webinar we will explore assessment principles aligned with Communicative Language Testing and we will examine a portfolio of tools to effectively assess students´ communicative skills.

Educating with Happiness

por Laura Szmuch

One of the greatest challenges of Education these days is to strike a balance between great academic definitions and the art of leading a meaningful life. Envision a learning space where there is room for self-care and there is an active engagement to create a respectful and compassionate atmosphere. Imagine a classroom in which apart from teaching the language you can include practices such as meditation, yoga, mindfulness, breathing with awareness, creative writing. In this webinar, you will get effective ideas to motivate and inspire yourself and your students. We will see examples of activities to foster a caring classroom and to promote tenderness and “buen trato”, and where the students’ emotional needs exist at the center of the interactions.

The Power of Games

por Sarah Hillyard

Games and childhood are natural allies, which is why the role of games in Kindergarten and Primary classrooms is so important. They are fun and enjoyable, fostering a positive atmosphere and attitudes towards the English language. In turn, this positive connection prepares children to be more receptive to learning the language. This session will focus on dissecting games (their components and skills involved) to highlight their benefits for the whole child. The setting-up of many different types of games will be demonstrated and practised.

Skills development 101: final toolkit to start leading the change in education

por Mónica Rodriguez Salvo

We educate to offer our students the skills they need for life. But is the knowledge we are offering enough to prepare them to navigate the world outside? We need to bring to our classrooms the flavour of diversity, curiosity, team-playing, and exploration; associating learning with fun, helping them re-shape knowledge and thus, become their own sources of inspiration and drive. Skills development is about fostering creativity, civil engagement and flexibility. How many of those are actively being developed in the classroom? This workshop will focus on revalidating our role as educators, having a broader look at our approach as English Teachers. I invite you to look at practical ways to implement all the ideas developed in this series of webinars, from formative assessment to quality feedback; from inclusion to the power of games. Happiness in education, social and emotional learning... they all create threads to be interwoven, so as to help our students become the best version of their future selves.
