Pearson Tests of English
Developing the essential skills for the 21st century.
An interesting and fun challenge for the youngest learners. Our main goal is that the first approach to English means a memorable and stimulating experience.
PTE Young Learners exams assess, through the four skills, the children’s capacity to use structures and functions in real-life contexts.
These tests, adapted specially for 7-13 year-old students, offer four levels of increasing difficulty, mapped to levels pre-A1 to A2 on the
CEFR.
Scenario-Based Tests
PTE Young Learners boasts a scenario-based test format: all the tasks in the test revolve around an everyday situation which students can easily relate to. It is this feature that marks the difference and makes PTE Young Learners a highly recommended option in the field of international examinations for primary schools.
Integration of skills
PTE Young Learners integrates the four skills: listening, reading, speaking and writing. This is of paramount importance to maintain the flow of the conversation.
Appealing Situations
PTE Young Learners presents situations children experience in their own lives. The topics are international, age-appropriate and interesting to children. For example, families, pets, friends, sports and school life are usually present in the tests. Some examples of scenarios from past papers include “First Day at School”, “Grandma’s birthday”, “A new friend”, “ Holidays with my family”, etc. This feature helps students immediately connect with the topic and engage in the test.
Fun Characters
PTE Young Learners introduces a not so typical English family “The Browns” as the main characters in the suite. The children enjoy reading about the everyday activities, adventures and mishaps of the Browns. They become familiar with the characters and events, which makes the testing experience both very comfortable and highly engaging.
Student- Friendly Test Format
PTE Young Learners includes a written paper with six tasks that assess listening, reading and writing. Each task contains a clear example that allows children to double check the instruction in the rubric. The written paper is followed by an oral test carried out in mini groups in which students perform two tasks: a board game with questions to answer and a talk about a topic.
Specially trained examiners for this suite strive to create a positive, non intimidating and pleasant atmosphere both in the written and oral examinations.
International Certification
PTE Young Learners is provided by Edexcel Limited, the largest awarding body for academic and vocational qualifications in the UK. Edexcel Limited is the official awarding body for
PTE Young Learners, so you can be sure that you are showing your students’ progress in an objective, international environment.
Feedback to students
PTE Young Learners provides detailed feedback in the form of a candidate performance report, which includes a breakdown of the scores for listening, speaking, reading and writing. The grades awarded for the test are Pass with Distinction, Pass with Merit, Pass or Fail. If test takers do not achieve a Pass grade, they receive a candidate performance report, but not a certificate.
